COMMON ERRORS IN TECHNIQUE OF KARATE

COMMON ERRORS IN TECHNIQUE OF KARATE

There are lots of techniques, moves whether defensive or offensive, we practice lot every day in DOJO (karate class). We also teach to the students every single technique as it is our daily task in professional karate life. To make perfect move of karate we need more and more practice, good training with faultfinder sensei (Teacher). I am conducting 4-5 classes in different places, society & RWA. I also go to different classes of our coaches to take belt test 6 to 7 times in every year. And I mostly face a common question of parents that when their child will become perfect as me (examiners), why they have not perfection in their technique and will it possible with them? I use to answer them “why not???” But it will take long time with regular practice. The perfection does not come easily. I also traveled a long journey of karate about 17 years and still journey is going on. It is another matter but here I am discussing about the mistakes occurs in practice mostly which prevents to make perfect move.
a.     Coordination
Most of the students cannot coordinate their hand & leg movements while they shift the body from A point to B or doing techniques in steps (forward & backward). Lack of coordination make affect-less move. It also affect on balance & posture of technique. Perfect coordination brings effective move in every technique.

b.      Control of motion
Body motion is obviously connect the move of every technique in karate. While you move here and there with doing karate technique the motion comes in your body. When you hit the punch or kick or block motion of body come altogether but in same time if you can’t control the motion, the technique will go whether out of range or won’t reach to the target. Children/beginners mostly hit their punch or kick without controlling themselves then get imbalance. It cannot help to generate the power in technique also. So the control of motion is another factor for errors in technique.

c.      Timing
Timing is super important and hard also. Don’t punch at the same time as you move but don’t punch too late either. It also goes with same in kick, strike & block. To make this great combination you should practice a lot. Great timing brings the good result in perfection. If you have good timing in movements or between techniques then perfection will automatically come. So it is the crucial part of karate training but it will take long time to become a perfect in timing. Without timing you can’t be master in any kind of technique. In initial phase of training it is too hard enough to bring 100% result in timing.

d.    Hit or push
Hitting or pushing is completely a different thing. But most students use to push their punch not to hit. Same case in kick also. They are not hitting with their punch this is pushing. Lacking of power in technique is completely affect-less. So they should try to hit with punch not to push.

e.     Accuracy
Hit to target with perfect move with control is accuracy. Lack of perfection in above factors I mentioned, its impacts goes through on accuracy. Correct vision, distance & focus play role in accuracy. If we hit our technique without focusing or without correct distance we can’t reach on target. It means the accuracy levels go down. We cannot make accurate target. Accurate punch or kick or block or strike will show the efficiency of karate athlete. But an error occurs in it also.
In conclusion, an errors may appear in above factors while practice. This will impact on effectiveness of technique in karate. So you should try to avoid these errors from training. You should ask question specifically-HOW & WHY always. If you don’t know, you don’t improve in art. Your body is smarter than you think, so try to do better always-don’t give up.
